[He does relax a little to hear that Hershel hasn't been hurt so far. However, he doesn't fool himself into thinking that Hershel has truly escaped punishment entirely; Zero only said that it would be lessened, not removed completely, and he doubts Zero would choose to show extra mercy for any reason.
