new arrivals and goodbyes

T H E  W A R E H O U S E

day 41

Hello newcomers, welcome to the 【 Warehouse 】.

Once you escape your elevator, you will find yourself here. It's strangely empty for a warehouse. Aside from the elevators you've come out of, there's nothing else here. In fact, the longer you look around, the stranger everything looks.

Every window has been bolted shut, with no way of removing the steel coverings. The only source of illumination comes from the florescent lights above. Along the walls are numerous amounts of surveillance cameras, watching every bit of movement and listening to the sounds of everyone and everything. Every door is locked up tight, with no clear way of opening them, and there's one giant door with a 9 painted on it. It's a rather strange place, and there seems to be a lot of people here, so go introduce yourselves?

For the "old-timers" and "newly-become-old-timers", come meet your new fellow test subjects. You haven't had more than one person arrive in a long while, so what a surprise! This also means that there are two elevators that you can jump into and have a nice, long, cold bath in! How generous of Calhoun.

"Don't remember," said Heiji, "Probably like you don't remember where you've been. But you're right about the Kaiyuukan, so you can quit glarin' at me."

He listened to Alfendi's reasoning, but found he disagreed with a significant amount of what Alfendi was saying. "I think you're kinda assumin' a lot. Even if I weren't someone running the test, there'd be no guarantee you could trust me. Well, I guess you could just check whatever I said against someone else, came right down to it."

In any case, it seemed like Alfendi had shit under control. "I guess that answers the other stuff I was gonna ask, though. You wanna know anything else?"

IGNORE THE TAG I JUST DELETED PLEASE because i decided i hated it

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-09 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
[alfendi nods apologetically when heiji calls him out on the whole glaring like a douchebag thing. he was just curious and a little suspicious, it's okay, he's not a super-racist gaijin or anything it's ok bro]

I'd like to visit one day - if I haven't already, obviously. It's quite a marvel of human technology, I think. Capturing a slice of the ocean like that.

[but serious talk time. alfendi acquiesces to heiji's point pretty easily.]

Please don't misinterpret the trust I'm placing in you as complacency towards everyone else in the group. With what little information I have so far, I'd say I'm about 57.6% certain that anybody claiming to be a test subject should be telling me the truth - that doesn't mean I'm going to just trust everyone I come across, it simply means I'm going to work off of the hypothesis that the mastermind is staying out of sight.

Besides, as far as I can tell, you haven't given me any information worth lying about, have you? Things like basic information can just be doublechecked with the other survivors, like you said; it seems like it would be rather stupid to try and mislead me on how, say, the bracelets operate, unless all of you are in on the lie.

[as for whether or not he wants to know anything else - well, of course he does, but he's not sure if there's anything he should pursue just yet. ... wait]

What do they serve in the cafeteria?

[because that's important apparently]
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: coast is clear)

ANGE......

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-09 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, he'd stopped glaring. That was a positive, although Heiji still got that feeling like Alfendi had been trying to test him on it or something when actually he was the physical manifestation of Osaka's hopes and dreams or something idk idk. "While you're there, you should take a ride on the Tempozan Ferris Wheel so you can see the whole area. They give out scenery information in Japanese and English."

P.S. it wasn't going to stop him from giving out sightseeing information on Osaka though...

At least Alfendi was admitting he didn't have much information, because if he'd gone on about how everything was just as keikaku or whatever, Heiji would have decided he was basically full of it. As it was, he was perfectly fine with talking about the cafeteria. "Gruel, frozen food, hot water that tastes like maybe it coulda been tea in a past life. It's not great, but it's edible."
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴛʜᴇ ɢᴜᴀʀᴅɪᴀɴ)

SHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-09 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds... [he was going to say interesting but after a bit of thought he seems to turn somewhat green around the gills.] No, that's fine. Heights make me feel woozy, apparently.

[but yeah, heiji's pretty clearly the crowned princess of osaka, so alfendi figures he's telling the truth. he figured earlier it was a little weird that heiji could remember his hometown even though he himself couldn't, but honestly it doesn't matter. there are more pressing issues at hand. like the fact that he has to eat gruel.]

That's it? Gruel and water? Nothing a little more - you know - stick-to-your-ribs? [still hasn't heard anything about attainable coffee!!! he's unimpressed with this CALHOUN]

I mean, at least we're not being forced to starve or make our own meals, but that's... discouraging.

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-09 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, that's right," said Heiji, with considerable vehemence, much more than he'd shown about anything else so far he had a lot of complaints about this ok.

"It's just awful stuff, day in and day out! No fish, no yakisoba, not even any miso soup! "The one time we could make our own meals was way better, 'cause at least we could make whatever we wanted." Of course he'd also been poisoned but worth it. When he got out of here he was totally going to learn to cook, fuck this shit.

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-09 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
... Well, I mean, I don't care about any of that. [sorry heiji but alfendi only eats pasta and fast food

but still. he's getting fired up about this too, apparently. the dude's been totally listless since he got here but this is the thing that finally gets his attitude going.]

The cafeteria is one of the greatest systems mankind has ever designed. I mean, cooking for yourself is totally inefficient - a complete waste of time - but a team of designated chefs organizing meals for a large group of people in bulk? Brilliant! Serving us gruel and tepid water is just... turning something structured and wonderful into a mockery of all things good. I don't like it.

[SIGH.] There's no honour in this.

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"The cafeteria?" UNACCEPTABLE. Heiji couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Dunno what kinda cafeterias you've been going to, but if you're talkin' chefs, you're lookin' at a restaurant.

"Besides, meals prepared in bulk just don't taste the same. Once you're producing food for a whole mass of people, it's tougher to provide the same level of quality that you can find on a smaller scale. And it goes without saying that there's no personal sentiment to be found in food prepared in bulk! It's way better to eat a nice meal together with your family or friends."

"...I agree about gruel and hot water being totally heinous, though."

He did like pasta...

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-09 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
No, restaurants are terrible. You don't know what you're talking about. The very notion of spending an entire evening going out for a meal... I have no idea how that concept gained as much traction as it did. It's such a waste of time. [unacceptable. he completely dismisses heiji's opinion with a wave of his hand, and that should have been the end of it, but. no. he has more to say, apparently.

glossing over the whole finding personal sentiment in food comment - ridiculous, heiji - he folds his arms across his chest and shakes his head disparagingly.]

Listen, when it comes to food, home delivery is the only viable option. All you have to do is pick up a phone, dial a number and wait for someone to bring you a meal in exchange for money and minimal social interaction. That's how all businesses should run.
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: what the shit)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-09 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"D...delivery?!" Heiji looked absolutely appalled. "You're not one of those shut-in weirdos who stays in and eats fast food, are ya? What's wrong with goin' out and talking to people once in a while? Especially people you like!"

"Plus, eating delivery all the time is totally unhealthy. You're gonna pay for it in your old age if you just eat that stuff all the time." Although honestly, Alfendi was already looking a little rough.

[heiji how dare you. alfendi is a delicate and handsome dandy gentleman of a youthful 29 years of age. he is as charming today as he was the day he was born]

The fast food industry is a titan of the culinary field and deserves your respect. There's no need to be judgmental. Besides - I've said it before, I'll say it again. Individuals catering to themselves is a total waste of time and energy. Pizza delivery is the answer.

[what the hell alfendi. but anyway, being a hermit probably explains why he's already feeling this drained after talking to, like, 2 people. he just wants to go home and sleep, man]

Obviously, I can't remember what I was like before I came here, but. There's nothing wrong with valuing your own personal space, is there? [translation: he's totally a shut-in weirdo]
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: !)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-09 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Judgemental? You're the one talkin' about how terrible restaurants are and how it's such a big waste of time. I can't believe you think everyone should just order pizza or whatever." Forget it, there's no way this guy's related to Hershel; Layton must be one of those names like Baker or Johnson or something BANNED FOREVER

"Valuin' your space is one thing, but I'd say you got a problem if you can't stand the though of a couple hours outside socializin' with people. I guess you could survive if you work at home or somethin'." He wouldn't go so far as to call it living, though.

29 years old, eats pizza all the time, probably never married...
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴛʜᴇ sᴜɴ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-09 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, I'm sure I'm capable of dealing with people in a social setting. I just think that ordering food is the only way to dine successfully. [he's probably just going to repeat himself at this point, because he's an idiot, so.] I don't understand how we got onto discussing how introverted I might be. Whether or not I can handle having friends wouldn't change the fact that I'm right about this.

Pizza delivery is the answer. Pizza is the perfect food. There's no such thing as bad pizza.

[his stomach rumbles, and he cradles his head in his hands, because too much food talk. he should have known this would only make him miserable. he shakes his head as if to chase away this foul temptress of a conversation.]

Can we talk about something else? This is depressing me.
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: coast is clear)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-09 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, I ain't the one who brought up you bein' friendless." Although come to think of it, Alfendi did seem like the #1 candidate for dying alone in a house full of cats. If he ever got out of this warehouse. And assuming he even liked cats. Maybe he only liked cats that could make him pizza or something look Alfendi it's your dream team right here almost like having real friends...

"You wanna talk about somethin' that isn't food, huh...? Well, I guess the big news right now is that one of us is missing. Guy named Simon Keyes -- long red hair, brightly-colored clothes, looks like he's in his mid-twenties."
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴅᴀɪʟʏ ᴍᴀɪʟ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-09 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but... [well whatever. more importantly holy shit alfendi would literally murder a thousand people in exchange for a house full of pizza cat cats. if zero ever says "hey alfendi go and betray/stab/whatever everyone in this warehouse and then kill them a billion times over in order to get a pizza cat cat" then alfendi will bring out the big guns and paint this town red. with blood. and pepperoni]

That sounds... rather unbelievable. Surely Zero would be able to track a missing person down in a place like this? He and Calhoun seem to be going out of their way to give us the impression they can see everything.

Unless you're suggesting this Simon managed to find a way out?
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: deduction)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Heiji waved his hand in a negative gesture. "Oh, I don't mean Zero ain't know where he is. I mean we don't know. He copped to workin' for Zero and disappeared after the last round of the 'game'. He must've at least gotten as far as the garden, but aside from a few blood flecks from an injury he got before the round ended, we haven't seen a trace of him since."

He was probably dead.

But if he wasn't dead, he was dangerous. So. You know, head's up there pizza cat cat buddy.
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴛʜᴇ sᴜɴ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-10 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[... oh. talk about ramping the conversation up to eleven. he'd rather be at home with his pizza cat cats]

Ah. Yes. Well. [he sounds slightly more grim, but still genuinely placid and unaffected by all of this.] That makes more sense, I suppose. If you're being honest with me, that means one of the test subjects before I arrived was implanted here as a mole, doesn't it? Or at least - became one over the course of the game? That's... unfortunate.
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: what're ya doin?)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-10 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Yep," said Heiji. "I mean, I figured it was gonna happen eventually, but not really the way it did. So if folks are a little on edge, you know why."

Unless they were talking Kuzuryuu, who was basically always on edge. "I don't think he'll be back, but I'd watch out for yourself, anyway."

Everyone would rather be at home with their pizza cat cats...
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴅᴀɪʟʏ sᴛᴀʀ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-12 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I would have been somewhat concerned if people weren't a little on edge regardless of the mole, but thank you for the heads up. [that's kind of a hypocritical thing for him to say, because he's not the least bit on edge about any of this at all, but whatever, it's fiiiiiine]

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I see a... what was it? Red-haired, brightly-coloured man? [alfendi's red-haired and wearing a brightly coloured sweater under his coat uh-oh, but. he looks like a skeletal old man so it's fine, he's probably not working for zero either probably]
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: what're ya doin?)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-12 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Depends on what you mean. People get used to all kinds of things. This place, too." Of course, who was Heiji to talk about people getting used to murder...

"...Say, is 'Layton' a pretty common last name?" He might as well ask about that even though this guy and Hershel didn't seem very similar. Or at all similar, actually.
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴛʜᴇ sᴜɴ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-12 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alfendi is very close to saying he'll never get used to the lack of fast food in this place, but he seems to think better of it and closes his mouth. good call, alfendi.

it takes him a moment or two for him to answer Heiji's question, though, and when he does, it's with a slight tenseness that doesn't seem to match the blankness of his eyes and the general standoffishness he's been carrying around with him this entire time.]

I can't say either way, but - personally, no, it doesn't feel that way. [which isn't something he's going to tell hershel, because stressing out seventeen year old boys isn't his modus operandi.]
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: coast is clear)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-13 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't that Heiji has anything against fast food in particular, just... sitting in your house all day ordering pizza wtf dude.

Heiji believed in coincidences; they happened every day. But he didn't trust coincidences. "So possibly two of us are connected to Hershel."
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴅᴀɪʟʏ ᴍᴀɪʟ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-13 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
[look, hershel made him pasta once, not that alfendi remembers that at all. he threw it out the window in a rage. fast food is the way to go]

Two of us? [That perked his interest.] Someone else might have a relationship with him?
detectiveofthewest: (Default)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-13 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Alfendi................

Heiji shook his head. "Not 'might have', it's confirmed. Clive met Hershel before he was kidnapped. Asked him some questions about an incident that happened in his hometown."

Of course, that did seem to be the only connection between them thus far. They were a rather international bunch.
lameton: art | <user name="pitopishi" site=tumblr.com> (ᴛʜᴇ sᴜɴ)

[personal profile] lameton 2014-11-13 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. I see. [while he doesn't exactly sound disappointed, it has to be pretty apparent to someone as incisive as heiji that alfendi's not exactly pleased with this answer.]

Are you at liberty to tell me about this - incident? This could be a step towards remembering my identity, so I'm curious, to say the least. [unless the incident was about a mass-murderer being caught slaughtering dozens of innocent civilians because for real if he finds out he's a mass-murderer he's probably going to be upset with himself]
detectiveofthewest: (Heiji: ?)

[personal profile] detectiveofthewest 2014-11-13 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Heiji considered this. He certainly could tell Alfendi about it, but --

"Neither of them mentioned you or anyone matching your description. So I think it's better if you ask Hershel or Clive about it. It's their story, y'know? Wouldn't wanna step on their toes." If either of them had mentioned an skinny old dude who really, really liked pizza, Heiji would probably have Alfendi more, but...

"I can tell you that it happened a while back. Well before either of them showed up here." One more thing occurred to Heiji. "Oh yeah, and try to be polite when you talk to Clive. He's kinda particular."
