new arrivals and goodbyes

T H E  W A R E H O U S E

day 41

Hello newcomers, welcome to the 【 Warehouse 】.

Once you escape your elevator, you will find yourself here. It's strangely empty for a warehouse. Aside from the elevators you've come out of, there's nothing else here. In fact, the longer you look around, the stranger everything looks.

Every window has been bolted shut, with no way of removing the steel coverings. The only source of illumination comes from the florescent lights above. Along the walls are numerous amounts of surveillance cameras, watching every bit of movement and listening to the sounds of everyone and everything. Every door is locked up tight, with no clear way of opening them, and there's one giant door with a 9 painted on it. It's a rather strange place, and there seems to be a lot of people here, so go introduce yourselves?

For the "old-timers" and "newly-become-old-timers", come meet your new fellow test subjects. You haven't had more than one person arrive in a long while, so what a surprise! This also means that there are two elevators that you can jump into and have a nice, long, cold bath in! How generous of Calhoun.

[oh, that's certainly a sharp tone of voice. Alfendi's not entirely sure how to handle what he's interpreting as defensive behavior, so he decides it would be best to just back off in order to avoid making him lose his temper even more.]

Sorry. I didn't mean to cause any offense. I apologize. I was just curious about whether or not your condition was caused by something here - I heard there were traps in the puzzle rooms, so...

But again - I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you or say something inappropriate.

Well...*Snake modifies his tone some*...there are but nothing that would make you go blind. We have had a few incidents with flying knives. Zero seems to be fond of that one.

To be fair, a flying knife sounds like something that could make a person blind. [a pause.] Not to be insensitive.

*Too damn late.* Only if you have spectacularly poor reflexes that you fail to dodge.

[alfendi arches an eyebrow at that.]

"Spectacularly poor reflexes"? I wouldn't say a person has to have spectacularly poor reflexes in order to be injured by a spring-loaded knife. The sharpest reflexes in the world wouldn't be able to save me from a weapon launching itself at me from a tactically sound hiding place.

Besides, that seems like a rather unpleasant attitude to have. It sounds like you're blaming people who have been injured by a trap just because they weren't capable of dodging it. That's very unreasonable.

*Wait a minute here.* I meant more along the line that if you saw a knife coming toward your eyes and you failed to dodge.

*It's a bit hard for Snake to keep up with Alfendi's thought process and Snake is not a slouch in the thinking department.* I'm not claiming anyone is a failure for anything that has actually happened. We're talking about a hypothetical situation. There have been a few incidents, however a few of them involve circumventing how to solve puzzles and trying to be too creative.

But even in that scenario, I don't think you would have to have "spectacularly poor reflexes" in order to get injured. [alfendi shrugs his shoulders a little.] It just seemed like a bit of an... unreasonable responsibility to put on someone's shoulders.

[buuuuuuut he lets it go, because he's more interested in those few incidents rather than this hypothetical situation they've been discussing.]

Yes, I've heard that traps are primarily sprung when you try to brute force your way through a puzzle's solution. When it comes to solving puzzles, I'm not the most patient person out there, so I'm sure I'll have to be careful.

*Good, something they can agree on.* I have heard of an incident where, instead of solving a puzzle to get inside a glass case, an individual decided to break it open. I was told that the puzzle room filled with hallucinogenic gas as a result.

There are cameras everywhere so our captors are sure to react accordingly if we don't act accordingly.
