So he switches back and forth between personalities. How did you find out about this? And I assume Hershel knows all about Alfendi's personalities? *That would explain what Hershel had been hinting at but not outright saying.*

Heiji nodded. "Well... I guess you could say it kind of came outta nowhere? During the sleepover, he started acting kinda extra excitable, and I figured it was because he'd had too much punch or sugar or somethin'. You know, that he was just showin' his true colors. But he kept goin' on like that after he went into that coma. Hershel's seen more of it than me, actually."

Hmmmm. I'm not psychology major, but couldn't it also be a case of being manic depressive? I only ask because I haven't heard his voice change from one type to another. Also, does he remember things that happen when he's more calm to being more frantic?

"...Maybe you should just talk to him. You'll see. He's... totally different." Heiji shook his head.

"Anyway, we're gettin' sidetracked. Hershel's challenge was to solve a puzzle within a time limit, but he couldn't do it. So Alfendi had to stay in the room an extra hour, and I'm not allowed access to the cafeteria for a day."

He couldn't solve a puzzle? *Hershel was so good at them so it must have been really hard. Not only that, if he failed, Hershel would feel really responsible for both of them.* So you'll just have to go hungry for a day, hmm? *Poor boyfriend, you get a little snuggle for your sacrifice.*

"Yeah. He was probably nervous about it. Plus, he hasn't been able to get into the cafeteria lately. He traded a bunch of his BP for medical supplies for Alfendi after he got hurt in the red room. After this round, he should be fine, but... I can't believe he didn't ask for help. Maybe he ain't think he had time. Whatever chewed on Alfendi did a real job on him..."

He sighed a little when Snake snuggled closer to him. "You're in the blue room next. You... take care of yourself, okay? Hershel, too, I'm worried about him."

He traded his points? If he needed some that badly, he really could have asked all of us. *Especially Snake, since he's in the lead with points. It was the kind of self sacrifice that Snake wouldn't really think about for anyone else...except if Heiji was truly bad off.*

Clive's told me just to be wary in that room and that I'll need to help out Hershel. I don't know what it means and I know you can't tell me but I'll try to make sure we come back in one piece.

He nodded; as close as he was, Snake would be able to feel the motion, even if he couldn't see it. "I know you will."

After a moment, he slid off the couch. "Hey, can you do me a favor and lie down? Lengthwise, of course."

All right? *Bemused, Snake complied with the order.* Is this an experiment for science or for some risque behavior on this couch?

"...Why can't it be both?" Heiji got back on after Snake had settled himself -- not on top of him, but next to him and propped up on one elbow. Then he leaned over to give Snake a kiss.

Kissing for science? That's something I can agree to wholeheartedly. *Snake kissed him back, letting it linger. He touched Heiji's cheek.*

Heiji wrapped his free arm around Snake's shoulders -- the better to cuddle, of course. When he pulled away to speak again, it wasn't by much; his face was only an inch or two from Snake's.

"...When it comes to scientific observation, you need a lotta data points for the study to be really robust."

That is certainly true, Heiji. Experiments have to be performed multiple times in order to verify the results. *Another few kisses.* What kind of results are we aiming for again?

"I thought you were the grad student... don't tell me ya forgot your thesis." His tone was teasing, his smile audible. He played with the soft, wavy ends of Snake's hair, winding a small lock of it around his finger.

Oh, so you want to study the physics of kissing, is that it? *Snake found he rather liked having Heiji play with his hair, so he turned his head more.*

"Maybe ♥. Oh yeah, I got something for you. Don't let me forget." Or, you know. They could totally forget about it while they were at this. Heiji would remember it again sooner or later.

In any case, it was pretty comfortable here, and Heiji found he liked this position. So he rested his head on Snake's right shoulder as he toyed with the little lock of hair.

"Hey, what kinda places do you like to visit? When you're on break, I mean."

You mean if I wanted to go on vacation somewhere or just places to visit on the weekend? *Snake reached around to run his fingers gently along Heiji's spine.*

"Either. Both." Gosh, Snake, so many questions. Though Heiji was going to bend in to give him another kiss before he had a chance to answer the one he'd posed.

Those fingers running down his back felt ticklish; he laughed a little and buried his face in Snake's hair.

*He didn't know what it was. The closeness? The laughter? The adorable way Heiji snuggled into him? A combination of everything? A new feeling made his heart skip a beat and his affection grow for Heiji by leaps and bounds. Snake didn't try to define the feeling but let it stay there until he had a better idea of what it was. He did chuckle low in response.* You are cute, you know that?

*He then thought about Heiji's request.* I suppose I'd be limited to places I could get to, but I know I'd try to find a symphony if I could. I think for vacations I probably visited California or maybe Denver since they're both a realistic distance. If I'm from the Pacific Northwest.

"What...?" Heiji blinked, surprised, his face a little red. "H-hey, you're not supposed to call a guy 'cute'!" He didn't sound all that displeased by it, though. In fact, his face was a little red.

"Well, we've got the Osaka and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestras," he said. "But you like doin' other stuff too, right? What about hot springs? There are some famous ones in Kinosaki..."

I recall you telling me that my name translated would be "Hikaru" but you thought "Light" was cuter. *Don't think he forgot about that incident.*

Hot springs? I'm assuming you mean something less violent than Old Faithful in Yellowstone. *Congratulations, Heiji, you might have found a subject Snake knows little about.*

"I said it was cuter than 'Snake'. Because it is..." Wow, how dare you throw Heiji's words back at him, Snake. Although... come to think of it, maybe snakes were a little bit cute, after all?

"That geyser? Nah, I'm talkin' about something else. They have outdoor pools fed by volcanic hot springs. Some hot springs are way too hot or dangerous for people to use them, but the ones at Kinosaki are like outdoor baths. There's a story that wounded birds used to use them to help heal their wounds."

He smiled at Snake. "So they'd help if you had any muscle pain, too!"

*Depends on the snake. Tiny little ones for pets? Yes. Mambas that can move faster than a person can run? Probably not.*

Oh, really? That sounds like something I'd definitely want to try. *An all-natural hot tub? Yes please.*

"Yeah, and it's been so long since I been able to take a hot bath, too. I can't wait to get back and soak in a real one again."

Heiji shifted, sliding his forearms onto Snake's chest and propping himself up so that he could look down at his boyfriend and talk. He examined Snake's face closely, or at least feigned doing so. "Hmm... you don't really look like a beach bunny to me. I wonder if you're into ballroom dancing or gardening."

Those seemed like gentlemanly hobbies.

*Snake smiled a little.* Making yourself comfortable, are you?

I'm not certain but they are both activities I wouldn't mind doing. A gentleman should be able to know how to dance formally. As for gardening, I'd probably stick to flowers that had a strong scent or vegetables I could cook. *Since most fruit involved trees and took time to develop.*
