the garden
 Early in the morning, yet again, the test subjects get to wake up to Calhoun’s dulcet tones. Through a megaphone. “Hey! Lazy test subjects, get your human rears up!” Once everyone is moderately awake and gathered, Calhoun will continue. “You all did such a great job last round, and everyone’s been so pathetic lately, that I, your glorious, merciful host, decided to open a room for you! Remember, rooms are a privilege, not a right! That means!” He takes a deep breath to scream out the next parts: “Don’t. Break. My. Stuff!!” He eyes at a few people in the crowd before leading everyone up to the second floor, where a new door will now be openable. Once inside there is a surprisingly refreshing breeze and bright light flooding from the ceiling. Welcome to the Garden! The roof of the garden is made up of what appears to be grids with screens depicting a blue sky during daylight hours and a starry night during the evening (they must be sunlamps because the light from the ceiling feels warm and, yes, finally some vitamin D for you sad test subjects). It appears to be more of a dome than anything else, but the grass is green, there’s a few trees around, some flowers, a bench here and there, and even a little waterfall that creates a small creek around the garden! Sure, there aren’t any edible plants, fruits, or vegetables around, the water is freezing, everything feels almost artificial, but this is a lot better than the cold, monochrome, and bleak look of the warehouse so far, so unless everyone else wanted to stay in the boring lobby instead of here, there wasn’t much to complain about. Well, have fun! Enjoy your new surroundings. |

Tell anyone about what? How you fell in because you were scared by a 'hello'?
[ Yes, he's using the word "scared" now, instead of startled, but going to pull Hershel up to stand, then taking his hand back. ]
Makes for a good conversation piece.

I was not scared! [somewhat flustered why jake, why] Startled.
[sighing, standing up out of the pond and shivering as he shakes his hair out a bit.] Since when do you even start conversations, I mostly see you standing in that corner of yours in the warehouse and being stoic.

Sounds to me that you were scared, just like that time in the lounge.
[ When Jake approached Hershel behind and the dumb kid actually put up a hand up in defence. Amazing, but ew, don't shake your hair, you're going to get some water on Jake. ]
And sorry that I'm not as popular as you. I like my corner, especially now that I have a new couch in it.

That- [It takes him a minute to remember what Jake meant and he just gives him a suffering sigh.] Again, startled, it's hardly my fault you come up so quietly. [it's more hershel isn't paying attention but shhhh shhhh]
[SHAKE HAIR AGGRESSIVELY no he does finish shaking it enough that his hair isn't in his eyes at least. if jake got wet these things happen]
I still can't believe you stole a bloody couch without repercussions. [He was enjoying it too sometimes though, so...] You know, you have been getting along better with the rest of the group. [he sounds so pleased about this as he takes of his vest to hopefully let it dry.]

[ Ew, dirty 'fro hair water, that sucks. He'll just wipe his off his jacket, gross. ]

[ Besides that he hasn't really punched anyone in a while ]

[and he considers his response for a moment before smiling.] Well, before you wouldn't really give people the time of day, especially in the beginning. I still wouldn't call you a social butterfly but you do talk to everyone a little more, don't you think?
[Hershel, the kind of nerd who tries to pay attention to the group at large. Adorable.]

[ Jake stares and then looks off, giving an amused half-laugh. ]
Maybe you're growing on me. Being held prisoner in a place for weeks with everyone does wonders for that.
[ They've been here for almost a month now, it's kind of crazy... ]

[Hershel was honestly extremely surprised by that answer, and he stares a moment before smiling warmly.]
They're not that bad a lot, right? It could be much worse. [Like seventeen Jakes, just saying dude.] Weeks- it's almost been a month now, hasn't it?
[Jesus christ they've been wearing these clothes for a month.]

Yeah, 26 days and counting. Don't know about you, but starting to think that we're going to need new clothes sometime soon.

I've been debating using the next coins I win on the chance of new clothes, to be honest. Disgusting doesn't begin to cover some of this... At least your coat seems to be holding up well.

[ Which doesn't sound great because Jake doesn't want to get just a single sock. Not a pair of socks, just a single one. ]
And if I'm buying something, I'm making sure it lasts, and that includes this coat.
