A M B I D E X  V O T I N G Chop chop, everyone downstairs to the first floor! You're all done the puzzle rooms, so you know what to do. Well, most of you, but it's pretty basic, just enter any Ambidex Room you like (they're not elevators, you ignorant test subjects) then vote! How does voting work? Very simple! Pick Ally or Betray, and that's it! But with every round, there's always some prizes, depending on what you vote, so here's this rounds: For anyone who chooses Ally, well, if your opponent chooses Ally as well, then 2BP for each of you. You get all that friendship, blah blah, whatever. For anyone who chooses Betray, and gets a Betray in return, your BP doesn't change at all, but you do get two cans of food and 15 coins for each person, what, you have a problem with it being the same as last time? We're busy over here, quit your bellyaching. Now, the best part: for anyone who chooses Betray and their opponent chooses Ally, Calhoun will be very generous with his prizes, again! You'll get two cans of food and a memory! We're switching it up a bit. Also, as usual, those who pick Betray get 3BP instead of just 2. But if you're the poor sap that chose Ally and got stabbed in the back, well, sorry, you lose 2 BP. At least you got stabbed for the greater good, right? And plus, you might get a little something. So basically, everything had gone as Heiji had predicted. That was a nice change from the last few rounds, and he had a lot of loose ends to tie up this time around -- congratulating Clive on not starving, looking up Kuzuryuu and Piper, checking up on Snake and Hershel... gosh the party never ended.

The bracelet changing colors, though... he was pretty sure he knew what that meant. "Don't tell me -- another 'Calhoun Hour'."

The party indeed was a long one. Hershel smiled as he approached a tad slowly- boy was he pleased Heiji, Piper and Kuzuryuu worked something out. And that it potentially looked like his team hadn't been gassed and high for half the room?

"Looks like it." He said, glancing at Heiji's bracelet. Looked just like his, yup. "I wonder what ridiculous things we'll be asked to do this time around."

Heiji sighed. "If it's a sack race through a mud field, I'm out." Not... trying to give Calhoun ideas or anything...

"Anyway, no one got hurt this round. What about you, you pull through okay?" Hershel certainly had seemed to be racking up those stab wounds last round.

"Maybe a three-legged race like a fair?" Hershel mused, also totally not trying to give anyone ideas...

He sure did. He sighed, kind of pointedly stalling because he wasn't even sure how to explain this. "We... managed. It turns out if you break Calhoun's screen it explodes." Helpful. "Jake and Ema are doing worse than I am, I'm afraid. At least Ema and I both have 18 BP."

"...You serious?" Heiji was in Hershel's personal space at once, looking him over and pulling at his sleeves and jacket to check for injuries and singled wool hair.

"What the heck you guys messin' with that screen for, anyway? You gonna be all right?"

"Heiji, it's fine-" Hershel tried, he's not hiding any injuries in his hair, promise, though there may be some debris still in there. It was sort of a death trap in that wool.

"I burnt my leg but I think it'll be alright, I'm more worried about Ema and Jake..." He explained with a sigh. "Ema got hit in the head and Jake got hit with a lot of the shrapnel." Pointedly not explaining how the screen broke can you guess who's strong enough to break a screen in that group...

Heiji could... kind of guess. "So when you mentioned 18 BP..." said Heiji, taking a step back, "What you really had in mind was them medical supplies, right? The ones you can buy at 18."

Yeah, he could totally tell how Hershel's mind worked. "Then let's hurry up and chase down that rat!"

Hershel could only nod to that, it was true. Honestly he had been aiming for the medical supplies for the whole round of puzzle rooms, several people needed them, after all. "Yeah... I have enough now, though I am worried it might just be another ruse of Calhoun's."

You nailed it dude. He looked surprised a moment before smiling. "Yes, let's, he's probably by his shop or the results board, yes?"

"Let's try the shop first; since no one betrayed each other this round, he probably got bored and scampered off somewhere." He looked at Hershel.

"You know, don't think he ever told us how much those things were." But how much could they possibly be? 2BP? 4?

Kon'nichi wa, Heiji. *Looks like someone's been learning phrases from Sasuke.* Did you make it through your puzzle well? *Snake is looking remarkably unscathed, other than his still bandaged right hand.*

Heiji raised an eyebrow. He knew that sound. IT WAS THE SOUND OF HIS NEMESIS: TOKYO-BEN. "Been learnin' some on the side, huh? But yeah, came through without a scratch this time. Who woulda thought?"

That's because myself and Clive don't try to rush through things. We are methodical in our ways of solving puzzles. *And avoiding getting stabbed is high on Snake's list, okay?*

I've been learning -proper- Japanese, and not "Hi I like you a whole lot" nonsense you were teaching me.

"Eh? You mean you actually said it?" Oh my god it was like Christmas in the most ludicrous murdergame he'd ever participated in*. It was




"Was it Sasuke or Kuzuryuu? What'd they say?"

* (Unbeknownst to Heiji, there was also a less ludicrous murdergame.)

It was Sasuke that I practiced that phrase on and he was kind enough not to laugh in my face and explain what it -meant.- *Snake is looking none too pleased.* I honestly can't decide if this stunt shows you're a sneaky bastard or an evil bastard. I will get you back. *Just like him, you won't even see it coming.*

Heiji did, to be fair, think that it was hilarious. On the other hand, it seemed like Snake was genuinely upset about it, which he hadn't intended.

"'Sneaky'? 'Evil'? Ain't you kind of overreacting a little bit? It's not like either of them woulda expected you to know."

I don't particularly enjoy being made a fool of. However, I will concede that your plan was devious so you get points for that. *If he wanted a competition, he'd get one! Snake would take his time to get Heiji back.*

"Um... are we talking about two different things? I wasn't tryin' to make a fool of you or anything. I was just joking around. You know, like friends."

Really, Kuzuryuu thought it was kind of stupid to thank the person you were up against for not betraying. Especially if they'd already agreed not to. That'd already said they would, so it wasn't as though they were doing anything special.

Still, there he was approaching Heiji, anyway. He seemed a tad awkward, clearly unused to doing things like this. "Thanks for not betraying, or whatever the hell people are supposed to say after a round like this. It's, uh, I appreciate you keeping your word. Y'know."

Heiji smiled at him. If he felt any awkwardness, it certainly didn't show on his face. "No problem. And I gotta thank you, too. Words are just words without actions, right?"

Someone was clearly happy that things had gone well this round! "Good luck on your next round, too. Though it looks like one of them minigames is actually coming up next. If you play your cards right, you could get a pretty good boost."

"Yeah... that's right." Kuzuryuu managed to give him a small grin in return.

"Same to you," he said, sounding pretty sincere about it. "Even if we get teamed up again sometime, I don't think I'd mind." He'd gotten along better with Heiji than Piper, at least, and they were supposed to be on the same side. His face fell somewhat at the mention of the 'minigames.' "By minigames you mean like... bingo, right?"

Heiji nodded. "Same here. And yeah, like bingo... though I don't think we'll be playing the same thing again. They seem to enjoy springing surprises, so I'm sure we can look forward to fresh new ways of messin' with us."

He paused for a moment. "Oh yeah, that reminds me -- 'bout those memories Calhoun offered this round. I can't really help ya with your memories, but I've remembered a couple of things so far. I ain't so sure they'll be helpful, but I could tell you about 'em if you're curious."

The idea of bingo was just so incredibly silly it swung right back around to being annoying. "Tch, I'm sure it'll be fun for the rat and Zero, anyway."

In any case, Kuzuryuu was curious, even if getting his own memories back would have been more preferable. "Tell me, anyway. With how this place is set up, it's hard to tell what's important and what isn't. So, no matter what it's probably worth knowing."

"Okay. First off, they're kinda random when you get 'em, as far as I can tell. I don't think the ones I got are connected at all. The first one took place in a temple in Kyoto, probably when I was still in second or third grade..."

Quickly, Heiji gave Kuzuryuu a rundown of his memory of watching a young girl in a brightly-colored kimono singing a mysterious song and leaving behind some kind of small glass bauble when Heiji had rushed outside to find her. He left out, of course, the speculation about who she was and the part about how it was kind of right out of a shoujo manga or something.

"The second one was more recent, but I still ain't sure exactly when it happened. I was sittin' in a patrol car with a couple other people when we came to a stop. A bunch of people on the street pointed up at the sky, and when I looked up, this dead body fell right onto the hood. It was a middle-aged guy, knife stickin' right out of his chest. I got out and looked up, and there was another fella on top of the building where he'd fallen from.

"Me and someone I was with rushed up to the rooftop, but he said he was just a store owner there. Someone had called him up to the rooftop a minute or two before, probably to set up the whole show. But while I was talkin' to the people with me about it, this auntie who'd been watchin' the whole thing bolted from the scene. She drove off before we could stop her."

They certainly didn't sound connected, as far as Kuzuryuu could tell. "Just by listening to those memories, I'm not seeing how they might be linked to why we're here."

The murder case seemed as though it might be more significant than the Kyoto memory but - "Getting mixed up in a murder case can get messy, but you'd have to really piss off some influential people for them to resort to putting you in this place. Guess you did say they might not be helpful." He didn't sound as though he was annoyed by that, it was more of an observation than anything.

He hesitated for a second, before he continued. "Thanks for sharing, anyway, though. ...Whenever I remember something I can fill you in on it. Y'know, if you want."

"Plus, the memories that I've heard from other people... well, a bunch are things like bein' in a supermarket or having a conversation. Maybe when we get a couple more, there'll be a pattern."

He grinned. "Anyway, sure! Even if it's somethin' mundane, there might be something in there we can use. And if there isn't, well... it's nice every once in a while to hear 'em. I mean, we all had to have lives before we woke up here. I think it's important to keep in mind, or else we'd all just go nuts in here."
