Once everyone exits their respective rooms, Zero's voice will be heard over the speakers:

"Proceed into the Ambidex Rooms and cast your vote. You will be given 45 minutes to decide."

And with that, the elevator doors open and the PA system turns itself off. It seems as if there are no rewards or any of that nonsense this time around...

... "You... blew it up?" Heiji. Heiji. Moodswing to overly worried is a go. "Heiji, for goodness's sake... are you alright? Did any of the shrapnel hit you? That bloody- Zero, I mean, I can't imagine he wouldn't purposely make it full of small bits or some other nonsense and-"

Someone stop him, please. Wait, he stopped himself with pinching the bridge of his nose. "I mean... I'm glad you made it through. Somehow I'm not surprised you took the most unique route."

Right, Alfendi. "Oh, yes, I need to find him too." Had quite a few things to discuss. Back to worried, how did people handle like a million emotions at once? Not for him. "And Ema, and maybe Jake, and probably Sasuke..."

"We're both okay! Took me kinda by surprise -- I thought we'd just short it out. It's lucky we put up that table as a shield." It was full of small bits and nonsense, but maybe Hershel didn't have to know that part.

"So... you got Alfendi's memory, huh? What was it about?" Heiji probably wouldn't ask for anyone else, but... Alfendi. "Ordering pizza? Eating mac and cheese?"

What did he think Alfendi's life was about...

Hm. Hershel regarded Heiji a moment, as if unsure he believed that blowing up a robot wouldn't end in tragedy somehow, before accepting that no one's head was blown off. Probably. He was still totally going to track down Sasuke though. "You two... I thought Jake was a troublemaker." He doesn't sound as concerned at least, mostly just 'that's so Heiji,' that classic emotion.

Alfendi was pretty Alfendi. He shook his head. "Alfendi doesn't want me to say, you'll have to ask him. I still need to tell him all the details." He sighed, rubbing his forehead. "He's so... he feels so strongly about things, it's a little overwhelming."

Heiji grinned. "Well, he is a troublemaker. But I don't think we did too bad, either!" This nerd. At least everything turned out more or less okay.

Aww. Heiji looked a little disappointed, but whatever he could ask Alfendi about it. "Sheesh, what a secretive guy. Oh well, at least he's back. So maybe Clive'll come back, too, and then I can give him back his photo."

Because the alternative was just too terrible.

"I'm starting to think everyone here is a troublemaker." Is he wrong at all. "I suppose as long as it worked out... explosions and fire, honestly."

Mentioning Clive made him nod more solemnly. "It has to mean there's a chance, right? This is the first time it's ever happened, I thought that wanker Zero might have just- you know." Murdered them. Hm. "Clive will be back, he invested so much time into Clive."

"Including you," said Heiji, holding up his index finger. "According to Calhoun when he wakes up, that is." You were totally complicit in those angry eyebrows, buddy.

"...Hey, did Clive ever show you that photo of his?" Hershel. Did you want to see it.

Hershel put on a faux shocked sort of look. "Me? Hardly, I'm entirely innocent in any affair Calhoun might be annoyed at." It was his creative spirit Calhoun, don't push him down.

"The one of his parents?" He nodded. "Only once- why do you ask?"

Wow, Hershel, you were growing some sass. Way to go, nurture that inner shitlord.

He smiled. "Nah, I was just wonderin'. After he was quarantined, I found it with his hat. It's funny, huh? He looks so happy in that picture."

It wasn't even Alfendi's memory influence, he's morphing into an ugly butterfly or something.

"Did you really?" He looked a little shocked, mostly that Zero let anything slip. Maybe Zero didn't care. "He was so young then, and with his family." Hershel shook his head. "May I see it?"

"Sure." He pulled out the photo and showed it to Hershel. Wow, look at that innocent little kid. But had Clive even grown since this picture had taken place? Hmm.

"Check out that fluffy hair. And those cheeks! I bet ladies loved him." He was smiling as he looked at the photo, although there was a bit of a wistful edge to it. "You wonder what you looked like as a kid?"

Clearly this was only Clive from like maybe a year ago. They're such good friends. Hershel leaned in to regard the picture, smiling a little though there was some sadness in it as well. He missed Clive, though at least there was some real hope he'd come back now.

"Probably." He was a cute little shit. Heiji's question made him glance over. "Not until now. I probably looked ridiculous." He said, amused. He looked ridiculous now so... "What about you? What do you think you were like as a child?"

For some reason, the question seemed to fluster Heiji a little. "Wh-whattaya mean? I was probably like I am now, gettin' into trouble! I knocked myself out that one time..."

"What about you? I bet you had fluffy hair then, too." And little beady eyes. And a tendency to accept it when your older brother told you that you were Hershel now...

Hm, suspicious response, Heiji. Have a curious look. "Well, that is true, troublemaking probably starts early." He answered slowly. "Your parents must have been worried sick a few times." And cute little girls you get handcuffed to, possibly.

"I imagine my hair was about as unruly." Only short so just a tiny poof, that's good. "I don't know... quiet, maybe? I doubt I was a very interesting child." Only if you found weird identity bullshit interesting.

"My... oh, yeah." Heiji furrowed his brow a bit. "Y'know, I was thinkin' about that. Seein' as how I was getting mixed up in all these cases, they must have known about it. Maybe they thought it'd be good for me. Or maybe they just gave up tryin' to stop me!" That sounded... oddly plausible.

"You shouldn't say that about yourself. I bet you were pretty cute, too. 'Sides, everyone likes polite kids! I bet ya liked puzzle magazines and such." And maybe had a little potted plant to take care of...

"You do seem rather dedicated to said troublemaking." Also your dad's a dick but that's a whole other thing. "Why do you think you started with all that? The cases, the mysteries, that sort of thing. Maybe someone you respected was involved."

"Who wouldn't like puzzle magazines, really?" Lots of people. "Alright, what do you think everyone else was like as a kid then?" Is it gossip time? It's kind of gossip time.

"I dunno. But don't tell me you don't feel it, too, 'cause I know that ain't the case. Maybe I was always just interested? Like some people like horror movies or roller coasters." Yes, that was completely believable, murrrderrr though.

"Let's see... I bet Jake was just as crabby then as he is now. He's got that kinda face, y'know? But Sasuke... I think he was pretty happy as a kid." And then some bad shit had gone down, apparently.

"Well, I suppose there is a certain appeal." It's a slippery slope. "I think chasing down drug dealers is a little different from liking horror movies, but maybe." He smiled a bit. "Maybe you were just born with a strong sense of justice?" He could see that.

"Really?" He considered what he knew about Jake's life... yeah he could see it. Not the best. "I suppose I could see it- same with Sasuke." And he paused. "I hope he'll be okay."

"Yeah, me too." Heiji sighed. "I could tell he was regrettin' it as soon as I told him what happened. Him and Clive both, I think they went through some pretty rough spots."

Which was a shame because they were kind of adorbs when they were little. "I wonder if Jake had hair as a kid..."

"He takes a lot on his shoulders, too much." Hershel felt pretty guilty Sasuke got saddled with his shit tier memory after having such a shit tier memory of his own. Talk about winning the stress lottery. "I don't know if saying that to him would make any difference though."

He shrugged. "Probably, he sort of has hair now when he isn't hacking at it with scissors. Honestly I expected him to be blond for some reason... maybe it was the American accent."

Sasuke, why couldn't you be reasonable? Or at least more reasonably ninjured.

"I wasn't even sure he had any hair. You think he gets normal haircuts when he's not in here?" ...Nah, he couldn't imagine Jake paying $15 for a haircut.

"Maybe he gets one of his buddies to do it for free, but it was such a disaster than he shaved it all off!"

"I think he probably shaves his head himself normally." Jake spending money on something he could do himself? Never. What did you take him for, a reasonable person. "He seems like he's on the go most of the time anyway."

Pft. "It's probably for convenience, I think he's told me before I should cut my hair because it's easy to grab in a fight or something like that. His priorities..."

"Yeah? Like to where?" Heiji looked Hershel's hair over for a moment -- or maybe more like his fro.

"...He think you're gonna get in a bar brawl or somethin'? Then again, I guess you could get stuck on a robot..." Or a bird could decide to nest on Hershel's head, that was a thing.

"Anyway, that's too bad, 'cause the next possibility I was gonna bring up was head lice!"
