vivarium | one new mouse

It's been two days since the vote. Since then, there has been little activity. The speakers have never been turned on since that day, and there's been no sign of the owner of that voice. No further contact has been made, and it seems as if the group was abandoned again without a clue as to why they're here.

... Unless any members of the group are lucky enough to wake up early enough to catch a glimpse of something, uh, "new"...

In the Greenhouse, while the artificial sky is a reddish colour from "sunrise", a large metal ladder is placed in front of the sickly trees. Beside the ladder is a children's wagon, filled with apples, and on top is an upright mouse with a gas mask... Yeah, as if this place couldn't get any weirder.

The mouse quietly mumbles to itself, something along the lines of "... work... not paid... test subjects... spoiled", and holds an apple in one paw and a tape gun in the other. It appears to be taping the apples to the tree branches, one at a time, occasionally climbing down to grab an armful of apples to bring up. It's only a third way through the pile of apples (which only seems to be about a dozen...) so catch it while you can.

[ Ellie could be mean and approach Rio from behind, surprise her that way, but she decides against it because she doesn't need Rio to cry on her.... again... for the tenth time.... no thank you, so she approaches from the front, carrying something new (a book??). ]

Sooooo... Asides from that weird rat thing, at least we have some new stuff. What'cha get?

Oh... umm, it's a photo, but...

[She shows it to Ellie with a look of confusion. True, the older guys have distinctly grandfatherly looks, but it's a pretty odd age group for a girl like her to be around. And they certainly couldn't be related, either; these guys are definitely westerners judging by the look of them, whereas she's pretty clearly Japanese.]

[ She asks, forgetting that Rio, just like everyone else, doesn't have any memories before the warehouse... ]

I have no idea... it looks like I was in a funny group.

Maybe they were teachers...? [Although that doesn't really match the clothes, either. And why would she be the lone student among them?]

Oh right, sorry, forgot about the whole memory loss thing.

[ It's still kind of hard to wrap her head around the fact that everyone here is suffering from amnesia... ]

But maybe? They don't look like teachers, though. More like explorers or something.

You're the only student in the photo, though. Kind of a weird to take just one girl on a field trip with a bunch of old dudes.

[She doesn't have any other response to that, apparently. She was just trying to come up with something that made sense, but...!

Ellie probably thinks she's weird now, huh...]

[ Ellie takes notice of Rio's expression and straightens, putting her hands up. QUICK ELLIE FIX THIS UP ]

Hey, don't worry, though! I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for it! It'll probably come to you and you'll find out that you were on some cool exploration searching for dinosaur bones or something equally cool.

[Well, that does seem to placate her somewhat. The tears threatening to fall vanish immediately as she tilts her head.]

Dinosaur bones... so you mean we could have been on an excavation?

[ Oh thank god... Man, it's always damage control around Rio. ]

Yeah, it kind of looks like it. You're clearly travelling somewhere, so why not looking for dinosaur bones? That sounds pretty awesome.

[She seems to think on that for a moment.]

I don't know much about dinosaurs... But maybe I just forgot it all?

[So far she seems to know mainly medical things, like how to patch up certain wounds... and also other fun details like how to cause those types of injuries in ways that are harder to treat.

Hmm.]

Maybe? Honestly, nothing will really surprise me anymore when it comes to that.

I still can't believe that we forgot everything but our names.

It really is strange... I wonder how they did it? I didn't think it was even possible to make someone experience such a selective memory loss on command, much less a whole group.

Is there even any point of erasing our memories? Besides trying to make us confused as hell.

Maybe... all of us knew something about them that they wanted to get rid of?

Really? You think we knew something like their identities?

Or an evil plan of theirs, or something... there's no way to know. Especially since we can't even remember enough about ourselves to know if there's something all of us have in common from before we ended up here.

Yeah... It looks like we're all pretty different though. Like you got us and then some pretty old dudes, so I got nothing on similarities.

Maybe all of us were in the same area then, for some reason...? Or maybe each of us even had some sort of contact with each other.

Maybe? It still doesn't really make any sense though.

Man, the more we talk about it, the more confused I get.

It's the age of the Internet. All sorts of different people could be connected even if they didn't know it.

Yeah, but it's still pretty hard to imagine...

Maybe we should ask that mouse some questions, if it can even talk. It's just as weird looking as everything else around here.

[She shrinks back slightly.]

Promise we won't take too long sticking around it, okay? Plus, I think with the two of us, we can take on a tiny mouse. Maybe it's as dumb as the goat.
