CALHOUN HOUR - Get ready to party!

Every third day, there would normally be an Ambidex Round going on, but today, it's different. Calhoun still screeches for everyone to wake up, that will never change, but instead of trying to rush people into a Chromatic Door, he instead splits everyone up into groups. Child Test Subject (Kariya) with Fancy Test Subject (Zelos)! That's Team One. Team Two will have the Nice Test Subject (Hershel), Hat-wearing Test Subject (Akiko), and Ditzy Test Subject (Aoi)! Team Three is the Giant Test Subject (Jake), Also Nice Test Subject (Colette), and the Blind Test Subject (Light)! Finally, the rest will be Team Four, with Tiny Test Subject (Clive), Mean Test Subject (Heiji), and Will-Gladly-Drug-Again Test Subject (Ema). Oh, why is Team One having only two people instead of three? Where is the French Test Subject (Enjorlas)? Well, he got sick too, there must be something going around, so he was also quarantined for this moment, but don't worry, Team One! Calhoun has something up his sleeves for you, so you're not missing out. But anyway, each team needs to go into an AB Room and stay in there. This is going to be a fun game, and anyone who refuses? Well, then he can gladly make those bracelets go off, and then you can have a nice long death. It's up to you, really, but let's make this easy and have fun inside the rooms, okay? I'm not sure I'd say earn, most of it was luck. [He shakes his head.] I'm just glad I didn't win, I think Aoi might have chewed me out if I did. She's ah... competitive.

[Probably because she made out like a bandit with all those stars and coins. Akiko can't really hold it against her - she'd have been pretty pumped, too!]

[Hershel looked amused.] I can't blame her, she really brought it all together in the end. I guess in games like this losing early on is better. [Unless you're Akiko.........]

[He shrugs.] This really wasn't so bad though, much better than the puzzle rooms and elevators.

[Akiko just sort of fails from start to finish, it seems... Maybe that curse theory has some weight after all.]

I wouldn't mind playing games like that to earn more points! ...As long as I did better the next time. Otherwise, I really might get stuck here!

[She laughs, though. Obviously that wouldn't actually happen, right?

[Hershel looks vaguely amused rather than worried, at least. That's... probably good??]

Anyone who doesn't ally with someone who managed to get zero stars in this is probably dastardly. [He's teasing a bit, what an ass.] Don't worry though, one BP won't make a very big difference, I don't think.

Yeah... I mean, I still would have had four, so even if I did the puzzle rooms, I would still need to go through three of them.

[Because betraying anyone along the way or being betrayed clearly wouldn't happen.]

Exactly. Oh I meant to ask, how's your food situation though? I know it's pretty tough living off the food Calhoun gives you at first.

[Maybe he could smuggle you some delicious mystery meals from the cafeteria, though starving might be better ultimately.]

I've been trying to space it out so I don't go through it too fast... We haven't done anything too strenuous so far, so I think I'm doing okay for now?

[Though the taste could definitely use some improvements...]

I'm glad, unless you have some um, well hiccups you should be fine. [Like giving all your food to the guy your partner made your team betray, haha... he was hoping Akiko would not have that distinct pleasure.]

I guess this is a little rude to ask but would you have picked a memory or bp with stars? It's a bit of a debate right now as far as I've seen.

Memories or BP... That's tough! I guess it depends on how many stars I had. I mean, I think if I had enough for two BP, I'd want to do that so I could get to nine faster. But I want to know who I am, too... So if I only had enough for one or the other, maybe I'd pick a memory? Either way, I have to do the same number of rooms before I can eat, so I might as well try to learn something about myself instead.

That's the way I've been thinking- also the only way we've been able to get memories back is betrayal so far, so having the chance without having to do that is nice.

Even a small memory can tell you a lot too. Maybe when you get one you'll remember your last name, or where you're from.

Actually, I was talking with Heiji for a little while when I first got here. We think I might be from Tokyo, because of my name and my Japanese. But it'd be nice to know something for sure!

[But then, there's so much more to a person than just a name and a location. The more she thinks about it, the more she wonders about the friends and family she must have in particular. Hopefully they're all okay...]

That's a good start- Heiji and I have been talking about going to see London and Osaka after all this is over, maybe you could come and we could see Tokyo too. [Happy plans were nice, Akiko was his bro, it all fit together. That and if she escaped without enough memories to be useful they could help her try to find her family, right? Good situation.]

London and Osaka? That sounds like an amazing trip! [She may not remember if she’s ever been to another country before, but the thought alone is exciting. It would be great if they really could travel to each other’s hometowns… It sounds like a lot of fun!]

We totally should! Even though I can’t remember anything right now, I can speak the language just fine. And I bet by the time we get out of here, I’ll remember enough to show you two all the sights!

[Definitely. Once they get out… They’ll definitely get to visit…!]

[Hershel's pretty sure he's never been out of England either, so yeah, excitement levels at these plans were pretty high.]

Even without memories I'm pretty sure I've never been to Japan before- Heiji's told me a bit about it though, mostly about the food there. Half the time I have no idea what he's saying, I have to admit.

[Totally getting out, optimism!! Optimism...] You must be used to crowds and tourists if you're from Tokyo, I don't think I can imagine living in a busy place like that. I'm glad we'll have you with us as a guide. [He'd absolutely get lost, he's useless.]

I guess I would be! The subways I remember are all pretty busy ones. I must have lived in the city proper!

[Not that it's very hard to do so, considering how sprawling the city is on top of its extreme space conservation when it comes to housing.]

I can't imagine that, from everything I've seen in what memory i got back I lived in a small, rural town. [he pauses] How old do you think you are, Akiko? Sometimes it's hard to tell, Clive's in his twenties but he looks like a teenager. [Poor Clive. Poor, poor Clive.]

... don't tell him I said that, he hates me enough right now.

…Wait, Clive is in his twenties?! [This is news to her! She thought he was a teenager, too!] And why does he hate you?

…I have no idea how old I am, though. I guess I was probably in high school? [She doesn’t feel like a junior high student, at least.]

[Poor, poor Clive, everyone is always so shocked at this revelation.] Yeah, he's a journalist, actually. He was in the memory I got back days ago, I guess that's the reason it wasn't too surprising to me. [Admittedly before he totally thought Clive was a teenager too so...] Oh, well... in the second AB round Jake and I were paired and Clive was the solo. I think I mentioned it, but Jake and I argued the whole voting period about what to do, and since Jake was closer to the button as time ran out he picked betray.

[He sighed.] So Clive hates us both right now. I can't blame him, even if I tell him I wanted to pick ally he has no reason to believe me. Still, I'm hoping he'll come around eventually, maybe after he has access to food. [He can dream...]

[Back to not depressing matters.] Yes, that's what I thought. I think Heiji and I are about the same age, and you as well, maybe Colette too? I honestly don't know what age she might be, though I'm pretty sure Kariya is the youngest here.

...Oh. I guess that would make it tough...

[But at the same time, she can't really imagine Hershel betraying anyone. He's too nice! One day, Clive should be able to see that...]

Colette... Yeah, I think she's probably around the same age as me. Kariya looks like he's in middle school. [And she has to wince a bit at that. Why did they have to drag in such a young kid?]

[If Clive didn't shank him first... Still, Hershel is hopeful. Sort of.] I'm sure I'll be able to make it up to him somehow, I just don't know how yet.

[Sharing that wince, because yeah damn.] I really hope Kariya's older than we think, otherwise Zero is being really pointedly cruel. I guess that probably makes Jake the oldest, he looks like he could be thirty.

[No shanking allowed!! Jake and Ema have already filled up our shanking quota thank you very much.]

Yeah, he does, doesn't he? And Light looks like he has to be in his twenties too. What about Ema?

[These are the adults. These people are the adults.]

Light is probably around Clive's age, I think. Maybe a bit older, as for Ema... [Hershel paused, considering] It's hard to say. I think she's older than we are, maybe older than Light? She seems really put together, I think she must be a bit older than the rest of us. [Wise, scary Ema]

I have to say I'm curious as to what you think of everyone you've met so far. We're a strange lot, aren't we?

[She has to laugh a bit at that.] Well, maybe a little. But I think it’s interesting to have so many different people together, don’t you? I haven’t been here for long, but I’d like to try to get to know everyone if I could. Even if we can’t remember anything about ourselves right now, the more we play through all this, the more memories we’ll get – so then we can keep learning more about each other, too!

[Gotta stay optimistic!!]

It's been a very interesting experience, I can definitely say that. I doubt I would have ever had a chance to meet a strange boy from Japan like Heiji, or... well, whatever Jake is. [mysterious probably army guy?? who knew.]

Who knows, we may be able to remember some things on our own too. [That's too much optimism!!!] I'm a bit worried what will happen if we don't have all our memories but we can escape.
