Every third day, there would normally be an Ambidex Round going on, but today, it's different. Calhoun still screeches for everyone to wake up, that will never change, but instead of trying to rush people into a Chromatic Door, he instead splits everyone up into groups. Child Test Subject (Kariya) with Fancy Test Subject (Zelos)! That's Team One. Team Two will have the Nice Test Subject (Hershel), Hat-wearing Test Subject (Akiko), and Ditzy Test Subject (Aoi)! Team Three is the Giant Test Subject (Jake), Also Nice Test Subject (Colette), and the Blind Test Subject (Light)! Finally, the rest will be Team Four, with Tiny Test Subject (Clive), Mean Test Subject (Heiji), and Will-Gladly-Drug-Again Test Subject (Ema). Oh, why is Team One having only two people instead of three? Where is the French Test Subject (Enjorlas)? Well, he got sick too, there must be something going around, so he was also quarantined for this moment, but don't worry, Team One! Calhoun has something up his sleeves for you, so you're not missing out. But anyway, each team needs to go into an AB Room and stay in there. This is going to be a fun game, and anyone who refuses? Well, then he can gladly make those bracelets go off, and then you can have a nice long death. It's up to you, really, but let's make this easy and have fun inside the rooms, okay? "Aww, you're probably better off without it," said Heiji, hands shoved in his pockets. "'Specially in here, where dolls try to stab you with knives. Hey, if you're from the U.K., that means you're over 18, right?"

Well... on the older side of high school but still high school-age!

Clive begged to differ about him being better off without alcohol in this place, but that last part reminded him of the conversation they had earlier that day. When Heiji asked him how old he was, he didn't remember at the time, but now he does.

"That's right. Specifically, I'm twenty-three years old." He'd like to think he graduated high school by now, thanks.

With no better ideas about what to do in this situation (wow this was awkward he thought they were the same age), Heiji laughed.

"Man... I guess that makes you my senior." There was always the possibility that he also looked younger than his age, but... wow, man.

"Uh, sorry if I said anything rude to ya before. Didn't know you were older than me."

Amused by Heiji's reaction, Clive laughed a bit as well. "That's quite alright. I wasn't too sure if I was really above high school age myself." After all, he looked so youthful! It was no wonder that everyone thought he was a teenager.

"Anyway, you got a memory back as well, didn't you?"

Heiji grinned. "I did! Wasn't really all that useful, though. It was from this one time I was a little brat visiting Kyoto. Must've been out there with my parents."

Parents who... you know, apparently weren't big on supervising their child with a budding interest in murrrder.

"Kyoto, Japan? That sounds like a lovely place to visit. I wonder what places I've visited besides Stansbury..." Which he technically didn't even remember visiting anyway.

"It is! Think it must've been springtime, too, cause there were all these cherry trees blooming." He looked rather pleased about it, even if Osaka and Kyoto were only an hour and a half away.

"Since you're a reporter, you've probably been all over the place, right? Drinkin' coffee, sleeping in your car..." Apparently, Heiji saw Clive as a pretty hard-boiled reporter. No posh, fancy hotel rooms for this guy. "Well, I guess in America, they have news vans. Not too sure about the U.K., though."

Blooming cherry trees... what a beautiful sight that must have been. Even if the memory Heiji received wasn't particularly useful, at least it was pleasant and held more sentimental value than buying beer at the supermarket.

"Haha! I'd like to think I have. I really do hope I'll be able to remember some of my reporting adventures one day... If I do, you'll be the first to hear about it."

Heiji grinned broadly. "That's a promise! If we can't get outta here, we should at least get to remember bein' outside. So, uh, your memory was bein' in a bar or a liquor store or something? Were you on a case?"

"I was buying beer in a supermarket. It was the only thing on my mind at the time, so it seems rather unlikely that I was on a case. It was probably close to home." He still wished he had it right now...

He looked a little disappointed. This didn't sound like it involved murder at all -- and it didn't seem like it was related to their kidnapping, either.

"Well, unless Zero has a serious vendetta against buying groceries, guess that's kind of a dead end. I was kinda wondering if you might remember someone else here, but... no luck, huh?"

"Unfortunately, no... though I suppose it would be asking too much of Calhoun to give us useful memories every single time." That rat just loved to see their disappointed faces, after all.

"I guess..." said Heiji. "But I wonder if they can even choose which ones we get back. I mean, I can kinda see how Hershel's might affect the rounds, but what's remembering buyin' beer supposed to do for you? Other than make you thirsty."

He perked up suddenly, as if remembering something. "Oh yeah, if you see a little glass bead lying around, pick it up for me, will ya?"

"Hmm... when you put it that way, I suppose I should be thankful that I didn't get a memory about eating really good food," he said, laughing a little. He was crying on the inside, though. Clive had finally run out of his shitty beans today, so the true struggle for survival would finally begin.

He seemed a little caught off guard by the mention of the glass bead, though. "A little glass bead? What do you need something like that for?"

"No kidding," said Heiji. Everyone was crying on the inside, but especially Clive :').

"It's a... memento. See, I found it when I was a little kid, and I know I woulda squirreled it away somewhere safe. And what place would be safer than on me?" He looked irritated, like their captors had planned this just to screw with him. "Only it ain't in my pockets or anywhere."

But enough about him! Maybe they should return to the wide, wonderful world of starvation! "Say, how you doing in the food department? You still got some supplies left?"

"I hate to say it, but if you really did have it on you at the time you were kidnapped, then Zero most likely took it. I can't imagine why he would want to let us keep any of our personal belongings." Even if it was just a marble. Better hope that Zero didn't throw it out or anything.

Oh, great, starvation! Clive's favorite topic in the world! "Ah..." He laughed sheepishly. "I just ran out of food today, actually. But don't worry, I'll get by somehow."

Heiji slapped a hand dramatically over his face. "Don't even say that..." He knew that the possibility was there, but come on. A little bauble like that? What was he going to do, improvise explosives with it?

....

ANYWAY. Heiji was kind of impressed with Clive's stoicism. "Shoot, I'm sorry about that. Maybe if we'd all pooled our resources together or somethin', we could've got you some donuts."

"I appreciate the thought, but I would have felt guilty if you did something like that for me. It could be a while before we have another opportunity to win coins, so I would prefer that everyone use their coins to meet their own personal needs."

As a proponent of ridiculous optimism and sucking it up, Heiji thoroughly approved. "I gotcha. Still, don't wait till you're faintin' from hunger to ask for help."

You know, not like Heiji would. "You think this is gonna be more than just a one-time thing? Not that I mind seein' Zelos wipe the floor with our resident jailer, of course."
